Homeless Connect Health Care November 12, 2009
By Diana Kane, Health Care Coordinator
BFHP launched its first annual Homeless Connect Health Fair! The event brought together eight local agencies and dozens of volunteers to provide an array of healthcare services to our homeless clients. Held at our Multi-Service Center on Bancroft Way, about 150 clients attended. Our volunteers worked tirelessly to provide 39 seasonal flu vaccines, 32 H1N1 vaccines, seven HIV tests, as well as TB tests and Hepatitis A/B vaccines. The Suitcase Clinic, a UC Berkeley student organization, provided nearly 30 footwashings, 20 massages, hair cuts, and free winter clothing. Clients were also able to access addiction services, mental health services, referrals for women's health screenings, child and family services, and vision screenings. To top it off, lunch and toiletry kits were also handed out!
