Rio Vista Veteran's Residence

Berkeley Food & Housing Project is partnering with Solano-Napa Habitat for Humanity, and the American Legion Post 178 to build a permanent home for veterans.

Coming Soon to East Solano County

We are proud to be partnering with Solano-Napa Habitat for Humanity, American Legion Post 178, Solano County, and the City of Rio Vista on a new home for veterans exiting homelessness.

The planned residence is a 6-bedroom, 3-bath home in Rio Vista. The project will provide a permanent home with support services for local veterans. Many veterans struggle when living in isolation, but instead thrive on the companionship of housemates, and shared housing is a viable option for veterans on an extremely low income. Potential residents will be screened to ensure their compatibility for a group living situation.

Built next to the American Legion building, the home will provide a quiet and calm environment, allowing the residents to live healthy and productive lives. This project will also serve as a prototype for potential similar builds elsewhere in the county.

When the home is completed, BFHP will be moving in formerly homeless veterans and providing them with case management and support services to make their transition out of homelessness as easy as possible. The home will be owned and operated by BFHP with assistance from the American Legion, which shares the property.

  • In August 2019 we held our groundbreaking ceremony with Solano-Napa Habitat for Humanity and the American Legion Post 178
  • Our amazing staff joined other volunteers to stand the first walls in February 2020
  • Construction has been progressing despite COVID-19
  • GRID Alternatives conducted a fundraiser to install solar panels on the roof.
  • Solar panels donated by GRID Alternatives were installed October 2020
